MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the United Methodist Foundation of South Indiana, Inc. is to provide professional, socially responsible investment, endowment and planned giving services on behalf of the Minister’s Retirement Fund, and to the people, agencies, ministries and local churches of the South Indiana Conference to the end that Christ’s Church is served.

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION

First established in 1835 as The Preacher's Aid Society of the Indiana Conference of the Methodist Church, this United Methodist Church affiliated organization was incorporated in 1923, and later renamed South Indiana United Methodist Minister's Pension Endowment Fund, Inc.  In 1985, the Foundation was reorganized to better serve the needs and concerns of local United Methodist churches and their members within the South Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church.  At that time, its name was changed to South Indiana Foundation of the United Methodist Church, Inc.

In June 2007,  the Foundation's name was changed to the United Methodist Foundation of South Indiana, Inc.  The rationale for this change is to bring the affiliation of the organization as an agency of the church to the fore, followed by the nature of our ministry as foundation and our service location. With the proliferation of community-based foundations in Indiana, we believe it is a strategic advantage for our members that the United Methodist connection be our primary identification.

A tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, the Foundation is considered a public rather than a private foundation.  It is a separate legal and reporting entity affiliated with and recognized as an agency of the United Methodist Church under the church's group exemption.  Its members are the clergy and lay members of the Annual Conference of the South Indiana Conference.

The Foundation receives no funding from apportionments or from the Annual Conference.  Its operations are supported by individual contributions, earned income, and administrative fees charged for the management and administration of Conference and related church investments, and from the administration of gift annuity, endowment and trust investments for gifts to United Methodist organizations by individual donors.
