Board of Directors

The Board of Directors, elected by the member lay and clergy delegates (qualified as voting members of the Annual Conference) governs the Foundation.  New Directors are elected at the annual meeting and may serve no more than two (2) consecutive 4-year terms.  With the exception of the Executive Director, all directors of the United Methodist Foundation serve on a volunteer basis and do not devote all or a substantial part of their time engaged in the daily management of the Foundation or the administration and operation of the Trust Fund.

The Foundation’s Board of Directors has control over the management and disposition of all assets held by the Foundation.  The Investment Committee of the Board supervises any investment advisor, custodian, or other service provider to the Investment Trust Fund, and supervises the operations of the Fund. The Investment Committee is responsible for reviewing and making recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding the investment policies, objectives and/or restrictions applicable to the Investment Trust Fund.

Investment Committee

The Board has delegated oversight responsibility for the short and long-term investments of the Foundation to its Investment Committee. The committee makes recommendations to the Board concerning policy guidelines for these investments. It also hires and serves as liaison to the Investment Advisor and portfolio managers, and meets with them periodically to review performance and verify that investments are managed in accordance with Board policy.

The Investment Committee continually evaluates its policies regarding asset and sector weightings for the Fund, and is charged with seeing that all investments are screened to comply with The Social Principles of the United Methodist Church as outlined in the Book of Discipline.
